Words of Wisdom

I am on a bit of a de-cluttering kick right now. I really want my home to be a place of peace and it takes some work to get there!

While sorting through some papers I came across a notebook in which I had joted down a few words during a talk by Renee Ellison. She was discussing the power of a focused mother. I remember being really fired up when I left and these words brought that determination to mind again. This is what she said:

" Determine to have a strongly bonded and loyal family, a skilled and accomplished family, a family that raises the neighbors eyebrows in awe and brings glory to God.

This sort of family is fueled by the fires of personal sacrifice on the altar of motherhood - choosing your children over yourself....hour by hour, day after day."

Good, isn't it?

Learning to give up oneself can be a slow process. However, mother or not, we should all be giving ourselves to God. Motherhood just makes it easier.

This is something we choose to do each day, each moment. It is all worth it.

Mrs. Ellison really brought this point home by saying:

"If you ignore and neglect your children when they are young, their hearts will grow far from you. They will embarrass you; you won't like them as adults....you will feel shame and failure."

I thought she made a great point here. Whatever fleeting pleasure we may feel in fulfilling our own desires instead of paying attention to our children is certainly not worth it. We are molding hearts for eternity and there is nothing more important than that.
